Pitbull’s Lure Design Concept:
It is not commonly known, but fish have amazing vision. Fish eyes are much more advanced than our own which give many fish the ability to see a much wider range of colors than humans and can also see far better in dark/low-light conditions. Their excellent vision does not end there; many fish species also have the ability to see Ultra-Violet (UV) light. Designers at Pitbull Tackle experiment with light and add exclusive components to our lures to maximize the visibility and attraction each lure has underwater. We look at how fish in their natural environment appear to other fish, not the human eye! By using this knowledge of UV light and the effect it has on both fish and lures, we feel confident that our lures can outperform any other on the market. As designers of Pitbull Tackle lures, our main goal is to make lures that catch more fish, even in the toughest conditions.
Glow-in-the-Dark products absorb light from their surroundings and can radiate that light back out, creating their own light in a completely dark place. The only requirement for Glow-in-the-Dark to work is it must be exposed to light at some point before it is placed in the dark (this is commonly referred to as “charging”). Simple exposure to sunlight can create this affect, but the more focused and direct the initial “charge” of light is the stronger the Glow-in-the-Dark effect will be. Over time, the light created from Glow-in-the-Dark lures will fade unless they are exposed to direct light again in order to re-charge. In the quick video below, you can see our famous Bora Jig with its Glow-in-the-Dark properties. The first quick clip is of the jig plainly sitting on a table exposed to light from above. The second clip is of the jig in the same spot but with the lights turned off. No added light is being used, the Glow-in-the-Dark paint is creating its own light in a dark surrounding. Notice how extremely bright our exclusive 6X Glow paint is!
Ultra-Violet (UV) enhanced products work very differently. UV-enhanced products will shine far brighter than standard colors, however they must be in the direct presence of light for this effect to occur. UV-enhanced paint colors act almost like a mirror when light is shining on them, resulting in an ultra high-visibility presentation underwater. An additional advantage of UV-enhanced products is that they are visible at great depths. Ultra-Violet light, which is found naturally within sunlight, can penetrate deeper down into the depths of the water column than standard light colors can (reds, oranges, yellows, etc.) This UV-enhancement results in products which are dramatically more visible and enticing underwater. Humans cannot see UV light normally, but fish can. For us to be able to show the UV-enhanced properties of our lures, we can use an ultraviolet light to illuminate the UV colors. Check out the video below!
In summary, Glow-in-the-Dark lures initially absorb light, then re-radiate that light back out resulting in a lure which creates its own light. UV-enhanced lures take the light around them and reflect it back out to be brighter than any traditional lure. If you don't believe us, try some of our unique lures and let the fish do the talking.
